Freddy is a lovely miscreant of a Heinz 57-slash-lurcher type! We reckon he is mostly greyhound but with a good dose of English Bull Terrier (brings his height down - stubby legs, you see), GSD (BIG bark; reactive; sensitive) and possibly collie / boxer / dingo...!!
We found Freddy at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in September 2002 and brought him home on 5th November. Our guess is that he was largely under-socialised (quite badly!) and lived with children, as he has always been non-reactive around kids of any age.
We were extremely fortunate in that we very successfully overcame his, quite horrendous, anti-human problems, as at the time, we owned a shop which was popular with kids and adults, and also was situated across the road from a major park. This meant that Freddy encountered thousands of people, young and old in his first years with us, as well as numerous dogs who came with family into the shop.
Freddy now is an amazing dog with a silly range of skills under his belt. Starting with daily obedience skills, he progressed to agility, canine freestyle and is now studying hard to become a gundog (springer, lab or cocker...it's so hard to decide!!).
We hope that our story with Freddy inspires people to do more with their dogs and see the potential in every one of them, and realise that you can't train a dog to be perfect all the time, just lovely most of the time!!
